Erica Cassidy is a writer based on the quiet northern beaches of Auckland, New Zealand. Her work draws on rich life experience to explore the spaces between the real and the magical, and she is committed to creating inclusive narratives that warm the heart.
An intuitive healer, painter and pianist, Erica brings a multi-sensory artistic approach to her writing, weaving texture, sound and emotional resonance into stories that linger.
Screenwriting
Erica Cassidy has written hundreds of episodes of children’s television over two decades, and her creative focus is now pivoting as her own children grow up. Her first credited episode — the human digestion segment of Suzy’s World — became a cult favourite and led to lead writing roles on Sticky TV and Just Imagine. She created Māia the Brave and gained extensive experience writing and co-producing all 60 episodes.
Recent television credits include 21 episodes of Darwin & Newts and five seasons as Lead Writer and Script Supervisor on Anika Moa’s Toi Time. Her new animated series Rua is in active development with Pou Ahurea Māori Tiare Tito, Tomorrow, Rain Ltd and Tai Huri Productions.
Erica is the creator and writer of The New Woo, an episodic drama that follows the spiritual awakening of a newly divorced single mother. Her mixed-media short film, The Damsel Flies, is in early development and marks Erica’s debut as a director.
Erica also works in feature film. Her magical-realist screenplay I Am Dalí is in active development with Be Hope Films, Toby Parkinson and the New Zealand Film Commission. In 2025 she received the highly contested Seed Advanced Grant from the New Zealand Writers’ Guild and is currently writing Breath & Bone, a dystopian teen drama exploring the boundary between real and virtual life.

Erica takes a cinematic and deeply personal, sensory approach to her travel writing, seeking out experiences and painterly vistas that capture the heart and soul of each destination she visits.
Beauty & Wellbeing Writing
After cutting her teeth in the television industry in New Zealand, Erica spent the latter half of her twenties in London, working her way up to Marketing Director at Harrods-based luxury wellness company Urban Retreats Ltd. There she was responsible for the company’s marketing and brand positioning across six luxury sites, including an haute parfumerie, an in-house beauty magazine, the launch of multiple high-end wellness brands and one of the world’s first online beauty stores.
Erica returned to New Zealand in 2008 to work as a Brand Manager for L’Oreal, then left the corporate world to have three awesome kids and has freelanced as a writer ever since.
