Like many modern women, I find it increasingly difficult to put myself in one “About” box. I’m a professional writer, a Mum, an intuitive, a sea-nymph, skateboarder, Reiki healer, collector of antiques, pianist, sister, friend, wanderer…the list goes on and since reaching my forties I have decided that these layers of complexity are a blessing! How can we authentically create content without rich life experience?
My first memory of wanting to be a writer was reading the rhymes my Dad wrote in our birthday cards each year and loving that with so few words he could express so much. I was more likely to be found scripting my own versions of Roald Dahl’s Revolting Rhymes than playing with Barbies. Through High School I won writing prizes and had a few of my poems and short stories published but I never imagined making a career of it. After a year studying Music Composition at Auckland University, I finally admitted that writing was where my heart wanted to go.
I studied for my BA in Media Studies then completed a Certificate in TV Production at the TVNZ Avalon Film School in 2000 and have worked steadily as a writer ever since.
My experience spans everything from screenwriting for Anika Moa, Nanogirl, Maia the Brave and Darwin & Newts, copywriting for brands such as Kerastase Paris, LOVESKIN, Aveda, Crème de la Mer, Urban Retreat at Harrods, Daniel Sandler Make-up, the Roja Dove Haute Parfumerie and Signature Homes to name a few, writing TV adverts for The Warehouse, writing for and editing magazines such as The Beauty Book, BeautyNZ and Beautique in London.
I was a recipient of the highly coveted NZWG Seed Fund Grant in 2022 and am currently developing my first feature film. I have a Short Film, an Animated Series and a children’s book in the works as well.
The thing is, there’s another whole side to me as well.
It is said that people who are awake to their intuitive abilities have often had a near-death experience and mine came when I was just a few months old. Hospitalised with a sudden illness, my parents were told that it was unlikely I would survive the night. Spoiler alert: I did. Over the years, there were many occasions where I knew things or sensed things that other people didn’t, but I just wanted to be ‘normal’ and ignored it. Being a teenager is hard enough without absorbing everyone else’s extra-sensory angst! The trouble with closing yourself down is that it switches off the superpower we all have that points us down the right path, our intuition.
Having children opened me up again, just a crack, then the trauma of divorce blew me wide open. Since then I’ve been on a journey to understand and use my intuition in a positive way. Accepting that the world we see is not all there is has been like coming home to myself, and these days I can’t imagine living without it.
I love being able to tune into people’s energy and change it in a positive way, it’s one of the most beautiful and healing experiences in the world.
We all have the ability, but for some reason very few people know about how to use it! I want to normalise conversations around intuition and energy healing. So here I am. A writer, an energy healer and an intuitive.
Lovely to meet you.
